DIY MosaiKit Process
Thank you for choosing MosaiKit!
Let’s take a look at everything you’ve received in your Kit,
Glass mosaic tiles, grout, PPE - includes a pair of gloves and a mask. Grout mixing bowl with a spatula, scotch brite fevicol and finally your chosen substrate.
MASKING
We start with masking our substrate to protect the wooden polished surface.
For trays and mirrors, leave 5 mm from the baseline for the tile.
For the mirror, cover the mirror with a newspaper.
For clocks, cover the clock mechanism with the masking tape as shown.
MOSAICING
Start glueing the tiles with adequate amount of fevicol as shown and exactly follow the design template printed on the substrate
Once you have finished mosaicking, leave the substrate for at least 12 hrs for the glue to completely cure and set.
GROUTING
Place an old newspaper on your working table. Wear your Gloves and Mask. For this step, you would need a bowl of water and a muslin or cotton cloth.
Mix the grout with the exact water quantity mentioned in your grout packet.
The consistency should be like cake-batter, neither too runny nor too thick.
Spread the grout over the tiles, ensuring all gaps are filled.
For trays run your finger along the border to ensure it is fully filled with grout.
Once all gaps are filled with grout, let it rest for 5- 7 minutes
Dip the scrubber in water and squeeze out excess water. Then gently scrub the grouted mosaic surface in a circular motion to ensure grout fills all the gaps evenly.
Rinse the scrubber frequently and replace the water as needed (2–3 times during this process).
Ensure you squeeze the excess water from the scrubber each time you rinse it. Too much water can loosen the glued tiles.
If by any chance an odd tile or two gets loose in the process, pls do not worry. You simply put the tile in its position and apply some extra grout around it. The tile will hold once the grout dries.
Check for gaps, fill them with leftover grout, and clean again. Leave the substrate for 30 minutes for the grout to settle into the gaps.
Take your muslin cloth and clean each tile for any grout residue. This should bring out the original shine of the mosaic tiles.
Once nicely cleaned, let the substrate rest for a couple of hours.
After 2-3 hours slowly remove the masking tape and with the muslin cloth gently wipe off the excess grout from the wooden surface.
Now leave the substrate for 24 hours for the grout to completely dry.
And voila! you have your mosaic master piece ready to use and admire.
